Canvas Tote Production from Brief to Packing

Our Binjiang District, Hangzhou facility coordinates material receiving and inspection, pattern cutting, screen printing, sewing, final inspection and packing on one site. Changes approved on the pre-production sample can be applied on the line and included in the bulk standard.

Six Checks That Shape a Canvas Tote

Define the specification from the contents, expected service life and artwork before sampling.

Canvas weight and hand feel

1. Canvas Weight and Hand Feel

Choose canvas by load, carrying frequency, desired body and expected life. Exact weight, color and availability are confirmed for the selected design and quantity.

Finished canvas tote dimensions

2. Finished Dimensions

Define width, height and usable depth from the contents. Send a finished-size drawing, size reference or sample bag instead of relying on a generic tote size.

Canvas tote structure options

3. Bag Structure

Choose a flat body, side or bottom gusset, board-supported base or inner pockets by the contents, organization and capacity needed.

Canvas tote handle construction options

4. Handle Construction

Choose cotton webbing, nylon, canvas or self-fabric handles, then confirm width, length, color and attachment. Longer handles allow shoulder carry.

Canvas tote artwork and branding choices

5. Artwork and Branding

Choose screen printing, digital direct printing, embroidery or heat transfer from the artwork, order quantity and canvas. Confirm colors, placement, labels and hangtags.

Canvas tote quality and packing checks

6. Quality and Packing

Approve the sample, inspection points, individual packing, paper cards, cartons and quantity requirements before production.

Compare Four Custom Canvas Tote Formats

This collection has four products. Screen printing, embroidery, heat transfer, longer shoulder-carry handles and canvas weight are options, not separate products.

Six canvas tote styles in varied colors, sizes and handle designs.

Choose Canvas Weight by Use

Choose fabric by contents, carrying frequency, expected life, hand feel and graphic area. Most format-led orders in this collection use 12oz or 14oz cotton canvas cut and sewn in house.

  • 12oz Cotton Canvas
A common retail and giveaway choice, soft enough to fold flat but firm enough to hold its shape when filled and reused occasionally.
  • 14oz Cotton Canvas
Firmer and more durable, with better shape retention for regular reuse over months.
  • Dedicated Heavyweight Options
Weight-led 12oz, 14oz and 16oz products are in the separate Heavyweight Canvas Tote Bags collection. Its 16oz and 20oz canvas options can change price and sewing time.
  • Confirm Before Sampling
Provide the largest item, typical load, expected life and target feel. Exact weight, color and availability are confirmed for the selected design and quantity; approve measurements, canvas, color and hand feel on the sample.

Set Capacity, Base, Pockets and Handles

Finished dimensions and construction set capacity and carry. Confirm them with a finished-size drawing, size reference or sample bag before cutting.

  • Finished Dimensions
Set width, height and gusset from the drawing and contents, not a rough sketch or generic tote size.
  • Base Construction
Use a flat base for documents and light or soft goods, a side or bottom gusset for boxes, bulk, groceries or kits, or a board-supported base when the contents require it.
  • Inner Pockets
Add one to three pockets for a phone, keys, cards or another small item. Each pocket adds a sewing step and affects the unit price.
  • Handle Construction
A 60cm length and 2.5cm width are standard. Longer handles allow shoulder carry; confirm cotton webbing, nylon, canvas or self-fabric material, plus width, color and attachment.

Choose a Print Method for the Artwork

Choose the print method by artwork, color count, quantity, canvas, placement and seam clearance. Send editable artwork when possible, because changing the color count may change the suitable process.

  • Screen Printing
Best for defined solid-color areas on confirmed canvas. Cost depends on color count, not print area.
  • Digital Direct Printing
Use for gradients and photographic artwork that screen printing cannot reproduce cleanly.
  • Embroidery
Creates raised, durable stitching that survives washing. Text below a few millimeters, small lettering and thin lines need simplification.
  • Heat Transfer
Suits short runs and detailed multicolor artwork when a screen setup is not worthwhile.

Send AI, PDF, PSD, JPG or PNG artwork with Pantone references, measured print placement, labels, packing and destination requirements for the sample.

Three Popular Canvas Tote Branding Techniques

Each method needs its own artwork check before approval as a production standard.

Screen-Printed Branding

For flat, solid-color graphics on canvas. Pricing depends on color count. Send vector artwork with Pantone references, then confirm placement and print area before sampling.

Custom Canvas Tote Bags FAQ

Compare formats, prepare specifications and request a sample or quote.

This collection includes four products: the Classic Custom Canvas Tote Bag, Canvas Tote Bag with Inner Pocket, Gusseted Canvas Tote Bag, and Canvas Tote Bag with Webbing Handles. Screen printing, embroidery, heat transfer, longer shoulder-carry handles, and canvas weight are options, not separate products. Weight-led 12oz, 14oz, and 16oz products, lighter 8oz cotton bags, and zipper-closure totes have separate WiseTotes collections; 16oz and 20oz canvas are treated as heavier options.
Custom canvas tote bags suit fashion brands, retailers, promotional product distributors, corporate clients, event organizers, importers, and wholesalers. Uses include branded merchandise, in-store shopping bags, e-commerce gifts, trade-show giveaways, corporate gifts, kits, and everyday carry. For bags carrying heavy or sharp goods every week, start with the Heavyweight Canvas Tote Bags collection and confirm the choice during quotation, before sampling.
Choose by contents and carrying method: a classic flat tote for documents, light or soft goods, and straightforward distribution; an inner-pocket tote to separate small items; a gusseted tote for boxes, kits, groceries, or other bulky contents; or webbing handles when handle feel, color, or contrast matters. After choosing the body and base, set the handle length; longer handles allow shoulder carry. Confirm the canvas weight, finished dimensions, pockets, print area, quantity, and packing before sampling.
The standard MOQ is 100 pieces; lower quantities need approval and cost more per unit. Standard samples take 5 to 7 days; rush samples take 3 days and cost extra. Sample cost depends on the design. Standard production takes 20 to 25 days; a 15-day rush is subject to the current schedule. Written terms also depend on canvas availability, dimensions, pockets or gussets, handles, artwork and print method, labels, packaging, quantity, approval speed, and destination. Special materials, complex structures, customized testing, and special packaging are confirmed per project. Final terms remain product- and order-specific; WiseTotes confirms the workable minimum, sample cost and timing, and bulk schedule in writing for the selected specification.
Send the tote format, contents and load, finished width and height, gusset or base, canvas weight or target hand feel, quantity, handle dimensions and material, pocket details, labels, packaging, destination country, and required date. Supply logo artwork in AI, PDF, PSD, JPG, or PNG, with Pantone references, preferred print method, and a print position measured from the bag opening. For a sample, list what must be approved before bulk production: measurements, canvas, color, print position, sewing, and packing. WiseTotes then confirms the material and process and provides a product proposal and price.
Choose a gusseted canvas tote when the contents need depth, a wider base, or more usable volume, such as boxed goods, kits, groceries, or bundled merchandise. A flat tote is simpler for documents, light items, and high-volume branded distribution. Provide the largest item and typical load so the gusset type and finished dimensions can be evaluated together.
Choose webbing handles when width, length, color, texture, or contrast matters to carrying comfort or the design. Self-fabric handles give a more unified canvas appearance; cotton webbing, nylon, or canvas handles can be specified separately. A 60cm length and 2.5cm width are standard; longer handles allow shoulder carry. Before production, confirm the load, hand or shoulder carry, target drop, material, attachment details, and sample acceptance.
